As we reflect on our first year, we are excited to share with you the accomplishments of the Sunset Lake Association in 2023. Our dedication to the preservation and enhancement of Sunset Lake continues to drive our efforts, and we are proud to have achieved significant milestones this year.

New Website: Thanks to Image Management (members Kevin & Claire Weslaski) 2023 saw the successful launch of our new website, which has transformed the way we connect with our members and disseminate information. The website provides a user-friendly platform to stay updated on news, events, resources, and lake quality data fostering a stronger sense of community engagement.  Image management donated all of the labor and creative services required to create the website. They also covered all costs associated with the hosting, domain fees and security for 2023. Please visit our website here: https://sunsetlakeportageco.com

Partnership with CWES and Tomorrow River Charter School: We are thrilled to announce our partnerships with CWES and the Tomorrow River Community Charter School. By working together, we are fostering a deeper appreciation for nature among the younger generation and instilling in them a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM) Removal: The coordinated efforts of our dedicated volunteers in the Eurasian water milfoil removal events have yielded significant results in maintaining the ecological balance of the lake. Their hard work ensures the preservation of our natural ecosystem for future generations.

Social and Educational Event: Our June social and educational event brought together community members to learn about the lake's ecology and to celebrate the beauty of Sunset Lake. This gathering allowed us to come together as a community, exchange ideas, and deepen our understanding of Sunset Lake's unique ecology and the challenges it faces.

Free Well Testing: As a part of the June event, we organized free well testing services. This initiative, sponsored by Portage County, ensures that our community has access to clean and safe water, contributing to their overall health and safety.

Collaboration with 3rd Party Resources: We worked closely with Golden Sands experts to interpret the Point Intercept survey conducted in 2022. Their insights have been invaluable in shaping our EWM management strategies and plans for the future.

Monthly Lake Level Monitoring: Our team is monitoring and recording the lake level, ensuring we stay attuned to any fluctuations and can notify residents of any significant changes.

Sunset Lake Management Plan Update: Working with Portage County, the Town of New Hope, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), we made significant progress in updating the Sunset Lake Management Plan. This ongoing collaboration is essential to the long-term health and sustainability of our lake.

We are immensely grateful to all our members, volunteers, and partners for their support and commitment to the Sunset Lake Association. As we move forward, we are excited to continue our mission of preserving the beauty and vitality of Sunset Lake. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our members.

We look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and remain committed to our shared vision. Thank you for your continued support, and we invite you to stay engaged and involved as we embark on new and exciting projects in the years to come.
